PJE Home Vet

Your mobile veterinary service for the chelmsford area

Important Information

After 10 years it has been decided to close PJE Home Vet so we are not taking on new clients or patients. Since the start of 2023 we have asked clients to register their pets with other vets. We are continuing to provide a service to a handful of clients with elderly sick pets that are on chronic medical treatment. Paul Eagar is not retiring but is looking for a less stressful life and will continue to run PJE pet farewell the home pet euthanasia service for Essex and there is a link below.

Paul Eagar takes this opportunity to thank all our clients who have used PJE Home Vet and it has been a privilege to treat your pets. However life moves on and as I know one does not know what is around the corner. I wish all our previous clients and their pets good health and fortune in the future.

How We Work

This service is ideal for animals with mobility or anxiety problems.

All services that you would expect to be offered in a veterinary consulting room can be performed in your own home or our mobile surgery suite. This is a fully equipped veterinary surgery where it is possible to operate and perform minor procedures including neutering and dentals. It is heated and air conditioned and has secure kennels so your pet can recover in safety. After the treatment your pet will be returned to you and we will leave you both when you are comfortable with their condition. All we require from you is a safe and even surface on which to park our vehicle and access to an electricity supply. Unfortunately, due to Health and Safety we may not be able to provide you with a service if you cannot meet these requirements, but we will discuss the options with you at time of booking.

About Us

Paul first got the idea for this business whilst working for both private and charity veterinary services. He realised the need some owners and pets have for home visits and the difficulties this represents in regular veterinary practice. It was out of this understanding that PJE Home Vet was born in 2014 but as you can see from above the service is being withdrawn except for a few clients.

Paul qualified as a vet in 1982 and has worked in the Essex area since 1985.

He says “I met a girl called Mary in 1993. She made it plain that unless I accepted her 3 cats, we did not have a future together so on our first date I gave them their boosters. This must have impressed her because we got married in 1995. Do you take this woman and her 3 cats………? Since then we have fostered cats for animal charities and taken in the unwanted and unloved, our home has always been full of cats. At present we have 3. I do like dogs (I grew up with them) but our cats don’t!!”

Esme (grey tabby) and her brother Ash (Regretfully put to sleep in April 2023) came to us as motherless kittens in 2006 and were hand reared by us.

Mia came to us in 2011 with her son, Frisbee. She must have decided that this was a good place to raise her boy because they both stayed.

PJE Pet Farewell

PJE Pet Farewell is an independent dedicated home euthanasia service for cats and dogs centred on Chelmsford and it is provided by qualified veterinary surgeon, Paul J Eagar BVetMed MRCVS.

We make the compassionate decision to put pets to sleep when they are no longer able to live their lives as they would wish and because we love them enough to let them go. PJE pet farewell provides owners with the opportunity of allowing their pets to die peacefully and with dignity in the surroundings where they are happiest, in their own home.
